Leadership in Action: Head Instructor Steven Fisher
As an owner of Kore Defense Industries and the Head Instructor for Kore Self-Defense, Steve Fisher exemplifies the dedication to multifaceted excellence that defines our center. Steve joined the Kore leadership team in 2021, bringing with him a rich background in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Judo, and Muay Thai.
A Pedigree of Technical Mastery
Steve’s approach to instruction is rooted in elite global standards and specialized expertise. His credentials include:
-
Certified Instructor, Krav Maga Global (KMG): Maintaining the rigorous international standards of the KMG system.
-
Instructional Foundations in Women’s Self-Defense: Licensed through the 500 Rising non-profit, specializing in the psychological and physical nuances of female-centric safety.
-
Level 1 Instructor, Muay Thai University: Certified under world-renowned coach Buck Grant.
-
Instructor Certification: Granted by our founder, Dr. Tammy McCracken, in 2023.
Community Impact and Security
Beyond the mats at Kore, Steve is a pivotal figure in regional safety initiatives. He leads our partnership with the Community Security Service (CSS), delivering specialized Krav Maga training to the DC Metro area. This includes intensive programs at local universities and weekly training at the Edlavitch JCC (EJCC) in Washington, D.C. Steve works directly with security leaders to tailor curriculum to the specific concerns of these communities, providing many students with their first—and most vital—introduction to self-defense.
The Heart of a Competitor
Steve’s coaching philosophy is forged from decades of competitive excellence and extreme physical endurance. Before transitioning into full-time self-defense instruction, he spent over 20 years playing and coaching competitive travel softball across the United States.
A veteran of the Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) circuit, Steve has completed over 60 races, including the Spartan World Championship in Lake Tahoe three times. His achievements in “extreme” endurance—such as completing 25-mile/150-obstacle races—inform the “Mental Toughness” aspect of our Adult and Fitness programs. His commitment to the community is further evidenced by years of coaching youth athletics, including the Loudoun Legends travel flag football team.
Academic Excellence
Steve holds an Associate and a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science from Penn State University, and a Master’s of Science in Information Systems from George Mason University. This analytical background allows him to deconstruct complex technical movements into logical, digestible steps for students of all levels.
