Steve joined Kore in April of 2021. His martial art background includes BJJ, Judo, and Muay Thai. He received his instructor certification in April of 2023 under our founder, Tammy McCracken. Steve is also a licensed instructor in Instructional Foundations in Women’s Self-Defense through our founder’s non-profit, 500 Rising, a Level 1 Instructor with Buck Grant’s Muay Thai University, and a Level 1 Instructor with Krav Maga Global (KMG).
Kore has been working with the Community Security Service (CSS) to provide Krav Maga training for their community. This work includes conducting 4 week self-defense courses at local DC Metro area Universities and a weekly class at the EJCC in DC. Steve has been working closely with the CSS Krav Maga instructors and security leaders to deliver training that aligns with their community needs and concerns. For many students, this is their first introduction to self-defense and Krav Maga. It has been a truly rewarding experience for Steve and the other instructors who have been taking part in this effort.
Prior to joining Kore, Steve played and coached competitive softball in the NOVA area for over 20 years. During that time, he played for a number of travel softball teams; traveling to PA, VA, MD, DC, NC, SC, FL, NV and other states for tournaments. Steve was also an avid obstacle course racer (OCR) and has completed over 60 races since 2011. His highlights include completing two 5 lap Battlefrog Extreme races (25 miles/150 obstacles), completing a 5x Spartan Race Trifecta in 2016, completing the Spartan World Championship race in Tahoe California three times (2015, 2016, and 2019), and getting married to Jennifer at the 2014 Spartan Race at Wintergreen Virginia (full wedding dress for Jen and suit, tie, and all for Steve!)
Steve’s volunteer work includes a year of coaching Tee-Ball (2016), two years coaching and assistant coaching Loudoun NFL Flag seasonal teams (2019-2020), and 3 years working as an assistant coach for the Loudoun Legends travel flag football team (2020-2023).
His academic background includes an Associate of Science in Computer Science from Penn State University, a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science from Penn State University, and a Master’s of Science in Information Systems from George Mason University.
